Green Highway in Uttar Pradesh: Connecting 96 Villages and Boosting Regional Growth
This new Green Highway will bridge the gap between Uttar Pradesh and other states, including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu. It will significantly reduce travel times for vehicles heading to Kanpur, Lucknow, Ballia, and Bahraich, fostering trade and mobility.
After the Ganga Expressway, Uttar Pradesh is set to receive another major infrastructure project—a 112-kilometer-long Green Highway. This transformative initiative aims to connect 96 villages while improving transportation across key districts. Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has approved the creation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this highway under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The highway promises to enhance connectivity and foster regional economic growth.
Green Highway to Link Four Key Cities
The proposed Green Highway will connect four major cities in Uttar Pradesh: Kanpur, Fatehpur, Hamirpur, and Mahoba. Currently, the Kanpur-Sagar Highway, which sees over 30,000 trucks daily, experiences frequent accidents, leading to its moniker, “The Bloody Highway.” By alleviating traffic on the existing route, the Green Highway will provide safer and more efficient transportation.
Transforming 96 Villages
Stretching from Kanpur to Hamirpur, the highway will traverse 96 villages, positively impacting their connectivity and development. Key villages along the route include Patiyora Danda, Devgaon, Gahatauli, Jalala, Pachkhura Buzurg, Tedha, Pandhari, Para, Raipura, Itra, Chandpurwa Buzurg, Inghota, Artara, Parcha, Karhiya, Chhimaula, Madarpur, Akouna, Rewan, Ratwa, Khanna, Chichara, Banhaiga, Barwai, Gohari, and Kabrai. Improved road infrastructure is expected to stimulate local businesses and enhance accessibility to urban centers.
National-Level Connectivity Gains
This new Green Highway will bridge the gap between Uttar Pradesh and other states, including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu. It will significantly reduce travel times for vehicles heading to Kanpur, Lucknow, Ballia, and Bahraich, fostering trade and mobility. With improved logistical ease, the highway will be a cornerstone for economic integration and modernization in the region.
Environmental and Safety Benefits
Designed with a focus on sustainability, the Green Highway will incorporate advanced road safety features and green initiatives. It will help reduce congestion, lower emissions, and create an eco-friendly transport corridor. These enhancements aim to mitigate environmental concerns while ensuring safety for commuters.
Regional Development Outlook
This ambitious infrastructure project will unlock untapped potential in rural and urban Uttar Pradesh. With smoother transportation and better interconnectivity, industries like agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism are poised for a boost. Enhanced mobility will also improve access to healthcare, education, and employment opportunities for people in the connected villages.
